Vale Daphne Pirie AO MBE
Published Fri 01 Apr 2022
On behalf of the Hockey Queensland board, we are sad to advise that our Life Member Daphne Pirie AO MBE passed away peacefully this morning.
Daphne was a fierce advocate for women in sport.
She touched so many different sports and causes over time, she will be sorely missed.
As a former President of Queensland Women’s Hockey Association, she oversaw great change and modernisation of that organisation. She was instrumental in progressing new people into the ranks and also championed many causes, none-the least being the amalgamation of QWHA and QHA to become Hockey Queensland.
She represented Women’s sport and sport in general at so many different organisations and served on many Boards, particularly at her beloved Gold Coast. Daphne was key to the Gold Coast Hockey Association reformation and continued her support for the Valley Women’s Hockey Club, Gold Coast Hockey Association, Brisbane Women’s Hockey Association and Hockey Queensland.
She was a champion golfer, athlete, hockey player, and even squash player (in her early days).
Daphne is sadly missed.
Please be advised that the following details are for the celebration of Daphne Mary Pirie’s life well lived.
