The Hockey Queensland Championship Wrap Up

Published Mon 01 May 2023

The Hockey Queensland Championship has wrapped up after a fantastic weekend at the State Hockey Centre in Brisbane.

It was a huge long weekend of hockey, bringing over 300 of Queensland's best athletes together across 21 teams to fight it out for their Associations.

In the Men's Grand Final, Ipswich met Toowoomba and started strong with 2 goals in the first quarter. At the half Ipswich still led 2 - 0, with both teams putting it all on the line.

A few quick goals from Toowoomba saw the score go 4 - 3 their way at 3 quarter time.

Some excellent goal keeping on both sides stopped conversion goals keeping the teams neck and neck.

In the last quarter, Toowoomba dug deep and blew the score out to finish State Champions 9 - 3.

The Women's Grand Final brought Ipswich and Gold Coast head to head for a thrilling match. Gold Coast led the whole game, and by 3rd time were up 4 - 0. A few late goals for Ipswich weren't enough to get them across line, with Gold Coast becoming State Champions 5 - 3.

Thank you to all of the players, team staff, officials, volunteers, commentators and spectators who made the weekend a huge success.
