The Hockey Queensland Championship 2024 Wrap Up
Published Mon 06 May 2024
The Hockey Queensland Championship has wrapped up after a fantastic weekend at the State Hockey Centre in Brisbane and Easts Hockey Association in Carina.
It was a huge long weekend of hockey, bringing Queensland's best athletes together across 39 teams (up from 21 last year) to fight it out for their Associations.
In the Men's Grand Final, Townsville met Gold Coast and started strong with a goal in the 8th minute. Two quick goals in the third gave them a strong buffer, but Ashton Price closed the gap to 3-1.
A final corner in the 60th minute secured Townsville’s win 4-1
The Women's Grand Final brought Brisbane and Tweed head to head for a thrilling match. It was looking to be Brisbane’s game, but two late goals and conversion from Jade Reid levelled the scores and sent the match to shoot outs.
Some fantastic saves from Maddy Smith and Imogen Burger kept both teams in it until the 7th round with a final save from Smith locked in the win for Brisbane.
Thank you to all of the players, team staff, officials, volunteers, commentators and spectators who made the weekend a huge success.
