The Governor of Queensland pens support for 100 Years of Hockey

There is certainly long-standing vice-regal support for the sport of hockey in Queensland.
Queensland Governors have an extensive association with hockey in Queensland over the past 100 years and the current Patron of Hockey QLD is The Governor of Queensland, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC CVO.
All Governors since Leneen Forde have been Patron since Hockey Queensland was formed in 1995, and before that Queensland Women’s Hockey had the Governors as its Patron. During the 1930s the then Governor, Sir Leslie Wilson – a keen sportsman, was Patron of the Queensland Men’s Hockey Association. He officially opened the Victoria Park fields and launched the hockey season there in April 1935. Governor Matthew Nathan viewed some of the early women’s hockey games in 1923 shortly after the Queensland Women’s Hockey Association was formed that year.
His Excellency has written a message of support to celebrate 100 years of hockey in Queensland, for which Hockey Queensland is tremendously grateful.
