Hockey Queensland’s Board President Steve Stewart has stepped down from the role following the 2023 Annual General Meeting on Saturday 29th April 2023. Steve has been a Board Member since 2015, and the HQ President since 2016.
During his tenure as Hockey Queensland’s Board President, Steve has led the organisation to new heights. Some of his highlights include:
- Steve led Hockey Queensland through an organisational reset, appointing a Chief Executive Officer in Alison Lyons, a new leadership group and building a new staffing structure.
- Throughout COVID-19, he ensured Hockey Queensland remained financially stable whilst continuing to support staff and the hockey community.
- He was instrumental in developing a positive cultural change for hockey in Queensland. This shift incorporates the #TeamQLD ethos.
- In his time, The Hockey Queensland Championship was established providing adult athletes an opportunity to play competitive state-level hockey while representing their home associations.
- Steve headed up the National Strategic Alignment Working Group, which connected all of the States and Territories with Hockey Australia to develop the Australian Hockey Strategic Plan 2023-24 and 2032 Vision. The establishment of these Strategic Plan pillars achieve increased alignment, consistency, and efficiency across every level of hockey in Australia, while making it more accessible to more people and creating positive and lasting experiences.
- Under Steve’s watchful eye, the Brisbane Blaze franchise was built from the ground up with the teams bringing home Gold and Silver in the first year of the competition and the home games having the best game-day atmosphere. As a hockey fan, he has been vocal in his support of both Blaze teams and the Hockey One League as a whole.
- Steve is very highly regarded by his peers in the other States and Territories, and in turn by Hockey Australia’s staff and board. He has built great relationships across the country and is a great advocate for the success of hockey in all of Australia.
- He has provided consistent and unwavering support of the Hockey Queensland team in the growth and development of hockey from grassroots through to elite, and his commitment to hockey in Queensland over the past 8 years cannot be understated.
Thank you, Steve, for your service to hockey, we wish you the best!
Mr Paul Mantell has been appointed by the Directors to the position of HQ President.
