Queensland go back-to-back-to-back at 2023 Women’s Masters
Published Wed 11 Oct 2023
The 2023 Women’s Masters Championships have concluded after an epic nine days of competition across six locations in Perth.
Queensland once again staked their claim as the number one women’s masters state after claiming four of the eight gold medals on offer. The Sunshine State won the 34+, 40+, 55+ and 60+ age categories, while NSW took out the 65+ and 70+ age divisions.
The Women’s Masters Championships continues to get bigger and better each year, with a whopping 48 teams competing across seven age divisions in 2023. This is seven more than the 42 that took part in 2022.
“Masters hockey in Australia is alive and well,” said Hockey Australia Board Director Pat Hall, who attended the event.
“Our national Masters championships are by far the most popular event in terms of player attendance and volume. It was great to see so many being drawn back to this event each year.
“The effort and expense that all the interstate teams and visitors have put in to be part of these championships cannot be underestimated – it highlights how popular Masters hockey is.”
“Congratulations to all of the winners and everyone involved in making this such a huge success.”
The 2023 Hockey Australia Master Championships was proudly supported by the Western Australian Government through Tourism Western Australia, together with the City of Joondalup.
