Major Infrastructure Feasibility Study - Needs Analysis Report Released

Published Fri 27 Oct 2023

Hockey Queensland in partnership with Hockey Australia appointed Otium Planning to complete the Hockey Queensland Major Hockey Infrastructure Feasibility Study in July 2023. The Study was commissioned to review the options for a new or redeveloped home of hockey in Queensland, with the goal of expanding playing opportunities for the hockey community in Brisbane.

The upgraded infrastructure would also better support Hockey Queensland’s High Performance programs and National High Performance events.

Furthermore, the establishment of a new venue could serve as a permanent location for the 2032 Olympic Games, facilitating the hosting of International competitions and events during the Green & Gold Runway leading up to and following the Games.

A needs analysis was the first section of The Study to be completed. Yesterday Hockey Queensland, Hockey Australia and Otium Planning released Volume One of the Needs Analysis Report at the Parliamentary Friends of Hockey event at Parliament House.

The Needs Analysis included an extensive consultation process with major stakeholders and the robust demand analysis tools used by Otium, to assess the synthetic hockey pitch provision in South-East Queensland, highlighted the fact that additional pitches are needed to help grow the game along with adequate venues to host events.

The next phase of The Study is to assess and analyse potential new site options, confirm preferred sites, and complete a financial assessment.

The full report is due to be released in late November 2023.
