INFORMATION ON THE TEAMS AND EVENTS
About The Teams
In Perth at Masters Nationals in 2023, the World Cup teams were selected as well as an Australian 'A' team. These teams were chosen 12 months prior so players could plan, pay and organise how to get there, with the Masters Nationals in 2024 as a final opportunity for selections.
As the teams came from across the country, players did their own training and preparation for the event with guidance from coaches but did not train together until their timeslot in the 3 day training camp prior to the Masters World Cup.
The Australian teams went up against teams from nations who had been preparing for the World Cup as squads, where they have had multiple trials, training camps and practice matches to prepare these teams.
Masters World Cup:
Only one team per nation can enter this tournament and are placed into their pools due to the previous world cup rankings. As HAMC didn't send all teams to the last World Cup, some teams were placed in a random pool. These teams would complete their pool matches, quarter finals, semi-finals and finals.
The 'IMC' teams would compete in pool play, however not progress out of the pools due to not being entered in the World Cup.
IMC teams - "International Masters Cup"
This level of competition caters for the Australian 'A' teams, where they compete for the 'International Masters Cup,' a competition that is ran alongside the Masters World Cup. These teams are the respective second teams of their nation, or other “Affiliated members” of World Masters Hockey that are not a national team, and they compete against other second teams from other nations and affiliated teams. These teams varied in each age category due to the varying team entries. The IMC teams play in the World Cup pool play, where they play against World Cup teams before being separated into an IMC pool to play off for their cup. IMC competitions are still in a growth phase so often there are only 2-3 teams entered. The exception to this is the Men’s 65+ and 70+ that had standalone IMC competitions.
