HQ Academy Men v Japan U18 Men Wrap Up

Published Mon 17 Feb 2025

The HQ Academy Men's Squad recently had the honour of hosting the Japanese Under 18 Men’s National Team, marking an exceptional week of international sport and camaraderie. Team Japan brought not just top-tier hockey skills, but also outstanding sportsmanship, which will undoubtedly benefit our local players.

The highlight of the week was a five-game series between the HQ Academy Team and the Japanese side, interspersed with several training sessions for the HQ Academy Men.

Coaches - Ben Fitzpatrick, Aaron Kenny, Alex Hough, Amy Ryan, and Connor Evans lead the teams for the camp. It was great to also use this series for some coach development - focusing on improving our coach communication methods, outside of the hectic National Championship programs.

Thank you to Clarke Tunstall for managing the squad for trainings and games.

The Pathways team will continue to create opportunities for experience and development for our Queensland athletes - this series continued the various events and engagements at the back end of 2024. It is important to get our players together in person to further get to know them, their needs, and determine what support and information they require - further developing and supporting the people as well as the athlete.

Establishing a relationship with Japan Hockey has been rewarding, and we look forward a potential return visit.
