In conjunction with the Brisbane Blaze Hockey One League home game vs. HC Melbourne – the Hockey QLD Academy delivered another initiative at the State Hockey Centre in Brisbane.
Queensland welcomed the HC Melbourne Futures to Brisbane, where a series of competitive games were played against one another. The HQ Academy group also took part in additional on- and off-pitch development sessions around the games against HCM Futures.
Alex Hough took on the coordination and delivery on the ground of this initiative, whilst other staff and coaches were in Malaysia with a different Academy group.
Thanks also to the Hockey Queensland coaches who provided their time to lead the development sessions and games - Cassie O'Neill, Adriana Silcock, Connor Evans, Aaron Kenny, and David Varga. Shoutout also to the Brisbane Blaze players who graciously went out of their way to provide time for our young athletes - Max Harding, Morgan Mathison, Maddy Kenny, Karissa van der Wath, Tim Howard, Corey Weyer, Sav Fitzpatrick, Mitchell Nicholson, Emily Witheyman-Crump & Jordan Bliss, as well as Angie Lambert.
The HQ Academy initiatives and camps are designed to expose our young athletes to experiences, locations, opportunities and opposition from outside of their comfort zone.
