Hall of Fame Inductions 2020

The Hall of Fame induction is a special honour awarded to outstanding Queensland Players of our great sport.

Hockey Queensland is delighted honour our seven inductees beginning with:

Hope Brown

Known to her mates as Bobby, Hope comes from a Toowoomba Hockey family of some note.  Her Queensland Open Team representation was 1997, 1999-2001, and 2003-2004.  She played Qld Under 21 1996 to 2001 and Queensland Under 18 1996 to 1997.
Hope played for the Australian Hockeyroos from 2004, 2006 to 2012, and the Australian Junior Team from 1996 to 2001 winning Bronze medal at the Junior World Cup in 2001.
She played in 2 Olympic Games, 2 World Cups, and 3 Champions Trophies and was the highest goal scorer for the Hockeyroos in 2009.
Hope was named in the HQ Team of the Decade 2006 to 2015.

Liam De Young

Known internationally as DY, Liam has an outstanding career.  He played for Queensland from 2000 to 2014, and the Kookaburras from 2001 to 2014.  He also played Queensland Under 21 and Under 18.

He is a triple Olympian with 1 gold and 2 bronze medals to his name, and 4 World Cups, 3 Commonwealth Games, and 8 Champions Trophies along the way.  He was Australian co-Captain from 2009 to 2013.

Named in two HQ Teams of the Decade 1996 – 2005 and again in 2006 – 2015, he was also named as HQ Rookie of the Year in 2000.

Amy Kickbusch (nee Korner)

Hailing from Ipswich, Amy was identified as a youngster and went on to more than prove her worth.  She represented Queensland in the Scorchers, Under 21, and Under 18. 

She had six years as a Hockeyroo and notes her highlights as World Cup, Junior World Cup, and Champions Trophies.  She has 51 caps to her international career. 

Amy also was named in the HQ Team of the HQ Decade 2005 to 2015.

Rob Hammond

Rob has an incredible career both internationally and for Queensland.  Born in Townsville, he is a duel Olympian winning gold in Athens and bronze in Beijing.  He attended 3 World Cups, 2 Commonwealth Games and 4 Champions Trophies.

Rob played for the Kookaburras between 2001 and 2014, and represented Queensland in the Open ranks 2001 to 2013, the NQ Barras, the State Under 21’s, and the State Under 18.

He has been named in the HQ Team of the Decade from 1996 – 2005 and again in 2006 to 2015.

A remarkable career – congratulations Rob.


Kelly Free (nee Thomas)

Kelly is a high achiever with a particular connection to Schoolgirls Hockey, and since 2002 continues to Coach the 16 years Schoolgirls Team, and indeed was made a Life Member of QSSHockey

She is known as a striker who continues to play Club after an illustrious career, having represented Queensland from 1990-1991 and again 1993 to 2000.  She also played Under 21’s and Under 18’s.

Kelly represented Australia from 1996 to 1999 and lists her highlights as gold medals at the 1996 Indira Ghandi Cup and the Korea Telecom Cup.

Named in the HQ Team of the Decade 1995 – 2005, she was also picked up as a HQ Distinguished Player.

Jason Wilson

Best known as Junior to his many mates, Jason is a wily striker who has an enviable record.  Coming from Tweed Heads, he represented Australia 97 times from 2009 to 2014.  He represented Queensland in the Open ranks 150+ times between 2004 and 2014, along with the State Under 21’s from 2004 to 2008, and State Under 18 from 2004 to 2005.
He won 4 Champions Trophies and Gold at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games.
He was named in the HQ Team of the Decade for 2006-2015.  In 2009 he was the highest goal scorer in the AHL, and in 2010 was the AHL Player of the Final.

Emma Stewart (nee Meyer)

Emma is a class defender who represented Queensland from 2002 to 2008, following Under 21 and Under 18 representation.

She was a Hockeyroo and competed at Champions Trophies, Four Nations, Oceania Cup, and the 2007 Good Luck Games held in China.

She highlights her debut game in Japan at the 6 Nation Tournament and playing against so many nations in so many countries as her best memories.

Emma was named in the HQ Team of the Decade in 2005 to 2015.

This completes the 2020 Hall of Fame induction announcements, and we are very happy to have brought them to you.  To the Players we have named in this 2020 year, we salute you on your fantastic record and commitment to the game.

It is hoped to have a formal induction ceremony next year with a further group of sensational Queenslanders to round out 2021.
