Hockey Queensland Welcomes Japan's Coca Cola Sparks for Thrilling Matches

Our hockey community are in for a treat as Hockey Queensland proudly announces a series of matches that will bring together top-class hockey action and international rivalry!

From the 13th to the 18th of August, the State Hockey Centre in Brisbane will play host to Japanese Women’s Club Team, the Coca Cola Sparks, as they take on the Australian U21 Women’s Team, the Jillaroos, and a Hockey Queensland Invitational Team.

Notably, the Coca Cola Sparks will be making their return to Queensland, after gracing the SHC four years ago as part of a series against an Australian Invitational Women’s Team. Guiding the Coca Cola Sparks is none other than former Kookaburra player, Neil Hawgood.

This series of matches will be a part of the Australian U21 Jillaroos Camp.

The squad competing under the 'Queensland' banner include Olympians and former Hockeyroos, Brisbane Blaze team members and former Jillaroos athletes.

Lee Bodimeade, Hockey Queensland's High-Performance Manager, expressed his anticipation of the week ahead. "The visit of the Coca Cola Sparks presents a unique playing opportunity for our High-Performance athletes to experience right here in Brisbane. The quality of hockey that will be on display promises to be thrilling as our Jillaroos and Queensland teams go head-to-head with the Coca Cola Sparks.”
