2023 Queensland Sport Award Winners

Hockey Queensland is proud to announce that last Thursday night, at the Queensland Sport Awards Dinner, one of our nominees was named as an award winner.

Congratulations to: 

  • Brent Brown BCC QLD Volunteer of the Year

Lyn Hill was awarded a Queensland Government Service To Sport Award

These awards recognise the outstanding contribution Lyn and Brent make to hockey, and we are proud to have them in our community

About Lyn

Lyn is Oceania Umpire Chair and is a member of the National Appointments committee that oversees appointments for National Championships and developing the next group of young umpires. Involved with Administration Rockhampton Hockey Association & Rovers Hockey Club 1980—1994
Secretary Rockhampton Indoor Hockey Association Approx. 15years: Player/Coach/Rockhampton Indoor Hockey
Lyn then moved to Brisbane and maintained her enthusiasm for umpiring, and indoor hockey. Lyn has undertaken many roles in umpiring, managing and in indoor hockey. 
Lyn Hill has an outstanding portfolio of umpiring and umpire roles at a State, National and International level.

•    Lyn Hill is heavily involved with mentoring, developing and inspiring hockey umpiring talent in Queensland.
•    Her commitments at a State Level on a volunteer basis have included: 
- Performing duties as Chair of the Hockey Queensland Umpires committee, whose charter is to develop and recognise umpires across the State as well as prepare them for national umpiring appointments.
- Performing duties as Chair of the Hockey Queensland Indoor Committee, whose charter is to develop and oversee programs and events to ensure high levels of competition, participation and officiating in Indoor hockey across the State 
- Performing duties as the Umpire Coach at the Open State Hockey Championships, the Big Hockey Hit Out and various under age State Championships.
- Providing valued insight to Hockey Queensland operational staff to develop and implement the Umpire Mentor Program, identify and appoint Umpire Coaches for all State Championships and communicate the requirements of accreditation for umpires. The Umpire Mentor Program identifies umpires who can work directly with Regional Associations to further develop other umpires.
•    Her commitments at a Regional Association level on a volunteer basis have included: 
- Performing duties as the Brisbane Women’s Hockey Association Umpire Mentor for the Senior Turf Divisions 1 to 5 
- Performing duties as the Brisbane Women’s Hockey Association Assistant Umpire Steward with responsibilities to allocate and source umpires for matches. 
Lyn is regularly seen volunteering her time at a local game and then at a State game and then volunteering her time of a night to Oceania umpiring.
A true stalwart of the game and one that hockey is lucky to have.

 

 

About Brent 

Brent is a Federation of International Hockey (FIH) International Advancement Panel technical Official and a Hockey Australia (HA) Advanced Lead -  Level 3 accreditation. His dedication to the off-field running of a game is evident through his many appointments and his role in educating and mentoring others in this area.

In his role of Technical Committee Chair, frequently called upon to coach technical officials through adversity relating to the giving and receiving of feedback, particularly when providing formal feedback.

Brent is a presenter of the Level One and Level Two Technical Courses, Collaborator in Redeveloping Materials for HockeyEd Accreditation Courses, Qualified and accredited Assessor and the Lead Technical Development Day. Brent is instrumental in continuing the Technical officials review and recommendations and provides transparency whilst implementing the recommendations.

Brent is Hockey Qld Pride Ambassador and proudly supports the diversity and inclusion of all in the hockey community. Brent shows outstanding leadership and embraces the development of #TeamQLD values and behaviours and is Hockey Qld is proud to nominate him for all his volunteerism efforts in 2023.
