What is the Junior Blaze Program?

The Junior Blaze Program is part of the Brisbane Blaze family and provides quality clinic opportunities available to junior athletes.

The program aims to assist with the development of junior athletes, who are eager to strive for greatness or junior hockey players who simply want to have fun. The program has its own development pathway and does not have interaction or connections with future selections into state teams, only personal athlete growth. The Junior Blaze Program builds connections with junior hockey players and Brisbane Blaze Players to form a closer hockey community.

The Junior Blaze Program is a pay-per-clinic cost

How can my Association host the program?
Associations are asked to contact the office on hqoffice@hockeyqld.com.au with dates and times you believe would work for your association. The office will arrange all travel/clinic logistics and work with your association to ensure the  program is hosted at your venue.

What happens in the seconds and minutes immediately following a racist incident can have a huge bearing on how it is resolved in the days and weeks afterwards. Understanding the options available to players, coaches, team managers and most importantly the victim, is essential.

What is Racism?

Racism occurs when a person is treated unfairly, excluded, or targeted because of their race, culture, language, or background. It can be overt, such as racial slurs, jokes, or abuse, or subtle, such as stereotyping, exclusion from team activities, or different treatment in selection, coaching, or discipline.

In a hockey context, racism may appear as:

  • Derogatory comments from players, spectators, or officials
  • Mocking cultural practices, names, or accents
  • Excluding players from team environments or social groups
  • Unequal opportunities in selection, leadership, or development
  • Ignoring or minimising complaints of racist behaviour

Racism has no place in our sport!

It undermines the values of fairness, respect and teamwork that hockey is built on, and it can have a lasting impact on those affected.

The following guides set clear expectations about behaviour, outlines practical steps to take when incidents occur, and reinforces the shared responsibility we all have to actively uphold these standards.
