The Hockey Queensland Championship

Open to all hockey players 18+ years, this is your opportunity to represent your association and play against players from around the state.

Event Details

Dates: Saturday 2nd – Monday 4th May 2020
Location: State Hockey Centre, 400 Lytton Rd, Colmslie, QLD, 4170.
Age Group: Ages 18+ (Associations may be able to include U18 players following consultation with Hockey Queensland)
Competition: Women’s and Men’s
Purpose: Competitive, Association-based competition for adult athletes state-wide.

This is a selection Opportunity for Queensland Country Teams

If you love playing hockey, hanging out with your friends all day, and having fun then The Hockey Queensland Championship is for you! Open to anyone 18+ years, the Championship is your opportunity to:
• Have fun playing the sport you love

• Holiday destination (Brisbane) – A fun-filled destination – there’s so much to do in and around the city and adventures abound.

WHO CAN PLAY?
Anyone 18 and over.  Associations may be able to include U18 players following consultation with Hockey Queensland.

As per standard tournament regulations, players must be financial and not under suspension.

HOW TO PLAY?
Contact your Association or Centre of Origin to find out when your team trials are. As a player, you will have the option to play for your Centre of Origin (where you played your first game of hockey or where you played the majority of your hockey) OR your current registered Association/s.

Any player who has not been selected to play in their Association team or who is a member of an Association who is not participating may register their interest in being allocated to another team to play in The Championship via this pick-up list. This aims to support all Associations who are seeking players to enable them to enter team/s and provide more players the opportunity to play in The Championship.

Teams are as per FIH rules. 18 players with 2 goalkeepers, or 16 players with 1 goalkeeper.

U21 Selection

The Queensland U21 squad will be shortlisted from the list of players that have already been identified and invited to attend High Performance training sessions at the State Hockey Centre in early 2020. Notice of selection for the squad will be announced after the HQ Championship on the HQ website. The team will be finalised from this squad in the weeks following.

At the HQC, coaches will be there to talent ID any additional players that may be added to these lists. If there are player(s) from your Association who you think the HQ High Performance team should take a look at please send their name to High Performance Director Lee Bodimeade by April 17.

It is important to note that this process will take place for this year only! The High Performance Committee will be discussing the process of selection of the U21 squad and team for 2021 at their next meeting as national and international tournament commitments for this age group are also factors which need to be taken into account.

PICK-UP LIST

Any player who has not been selected to play in their Association team or who is a member of an Association who is not participating, may register their interest in being allocated to another team to play in The Championship. This aims to support all Associations who are seeking players to enable them to enter team/s and provide more players the opportunity to play in The Championship.

This form is for open age (18 and over) players to indicate their availability to play in the 2020 Hockey Queensland Championship.  You should only complete this form if:

  •  You have a clearance from your registered Association/s; OR
  • The Association/s you are registered with is/are not entering a team in this year’s event.

Players under the age of 18 may submit their availability, however, these players will only be made available to Associations at the discretion of HQ and when the list of 18 and over players has been exhausted.

OFFICIALS

Umpires and technical officials who wish to nominate to umpire or be a technical official (Judge and/or Technical Officer) at The Hockey Queensland Championship in 2020 need to compelete our EOI form.

To nominate, officials should have the following minimum qualifications:

  • Technical Officials – Hockey Australia Level 1 or a request for Level 1 assessment
    Umpires – Level 1 Advanced

Please note that both of these panels are funded and those nominating are expected to be available for the full period of the tournament (2 – 4 May 2020).
